MAKING A WILL

Wills are important. Don't leave it too late. If you die without having made a Will, it may create a problem for your family or friends in relation to your estate. Your estate will be disposed in accordance with statutory rules on intestacy which may not reflect your actual wishes.

Having a will in place makes things much more straightforward for the surviving family at a difficult and emotional time.

When making a Will, you should consider these areas:

  1. Who do you want to inherit your possessions?
  2. Do you want to make specific gifts of money or objects to people you care about?
  3. Do you want to make provision in respect of children or grandchildren?
  4. If you want to provide for children who may not be adult at the time of your death, who will manage their interest until they are of an age to inherit?
  5. Do you need to appoint guardians for young children?
  6. With property values increasing, do you need to consider Inheritance Tax on your estate?
  7. Do you need advice on Discretionary Trusts?

We can also prepare a 'Living Will' for those people who wish to give directions for the stopping of life-prolonging treatment.

Please ring 01322 660617 to make an appointment to discuss your requirements.  We ask you to come with details of your assets (value of your home and contents; details of death benefits under insurance policies or pensions; investments; savings etc.) to enable the appropriate advice to be given and the Will to be drawn up.
